Gary Halbert was one of the biggest copywriters in the world and making a ton of money selling a lot of different products.

   It has been said that Gary Halbert at one point in time was the second biggest buyer of space advertising in the U.S., second only to General Motors.

   He also was a big spender so thousands of dollars were going out the door for fancy cars, houses, trips etc.

   At some point in the late 80’s, Gary Halbert started selling an info product that, for whatever reason, he didn't deliver on. I mean he literally didn’t deliver it. He kept the money and never sent the product out.

   People had paid mostly by money orders and checks so they couldn't charge it back to their credit card.

   When the authorities finally showed up at his house where he ran a lot of his operation, Gary Halbert claimed that all the orders were stolen and he had no way of giving refunds.

   He was arrested and convicted for fraud, and served more than a year.

  After serving his time Gary bounced back and began speaking at seminars for other people as well as his own direct marketing events.  He was also involved in a stock market seminar.

  Although Gary Halbert, did a good job, Gary had a unique writing style which is different from most copywriters, he was unable to get back to his earlier standards of copywriting and speeches. Nevertheless, he was good.

  Even though he did something very wrong, he was still one heck of a writer He knew how to get people to buy products and services like no one else.

  Gary Halbert died Easter Sunday, April 10, 2007 of terminal cancer

  Gary Halbert set up the “Gary Halbert Letter” in the `80's for a fee of $195.00 per year.
  People subscribed from over 50 countries and most of them took out a lifetime membership for $2,855.00.
   However, his students were willing to pay any price for his letters. These letters are now available for free on the Internet.
  Or in the words of the late Gary Halbert on his website;
  “Back in September of 1986, I began publishing a newsletter cleverly called “The Gary Halbert Letter”. The subscription price was $195.00 per year and, with very little promotion, I soon had readers in more than 50 countries. Then, I started offering a Lifetime Subscription for $2,855.00.
   And, guess what? It wasn't long until nearly all my subscribers were Lifetime Subscribers!

   Since I began writing this newsletter, I have received thousands upon thousands of letters from people telling me how my newsletters have helped them make millions (sometimes tens of millions) of dollars, saved their health (and, in some cases, literally saved their lives), kept their marriages intact... and... in various other ways... improved their lives immensely.

I have always been one to say that a leopard can’t chance his spots, but in this case I have to say I’m wrong and that Gary Halbert is the exception to that rule.
